ESSENTIAL BUSINESS STATUS Today, Empire State Development amended its guidance on Executive Order 202.6:
Marinas, boatyards, and recreational marine manufacturers, for ongoing marina operations and boat repair/maintenance, where such facilities adhere to strict social distancing and sanitization protocols. Use of such sites for the purposes of personal use or operation of boats or other watercraft is permissible, provided that no establishment offer chartered watercraft services or rentals. Restaurant activity at such sites are limited to take-out or delivery only. https://esd.ny.gov/guidance-executive-order-2026 (See Section 13 on "Recreation")
This is great news for us! We will be able to bring in some of our staff to work on the boats as necessary, and within all guidelines regarding social distancing and cleaning and sanitizing the facility, keeping our employees and our customers safe.
This new directive does not mean we are back to "normal," but it does mean the season can start with minimal delay. The shutdown DID DELAY US getting started, and NOT EVERYONE WILL BE READY RIGHT AWAY. We will be working as hard as we can to get your boats ready for the season, and we will launch them in a timely fashion when we get them ready. Launch scheduling will need to be coordinated in an efficient and orderly manner more than any prior year, and you should expect to launch your boat as soon as we inform you that it is ready. You must be flexible so that we can accommodate everyone. We will send an email to all winter storage customers soon detailing a spring scheduling/launching protocol.
DRY LAND MARINA THERE WILL BE A DELAY IN THE OPENING DATE OF DLM. NOT ALL BOATS WILL BE READY FOR THE START OF THE SEASON WHEN IT DOES START. We hope that you realize we've lost nearly a month of time getting winter storage boats ready and launching them from the main boat yard. This has put us behind schedule moving your boats from the satellite yard to the main yard. We are also behind schedule putting in the floating docks (which are ALL new this year), and prepping your boats (tune-ups and waxing). We ask for your patience as we catch up. You will be able to use your boats very soon! We will send an email to all DLM customers soon detailing our plan for the start of the season.
OUR BOAT YARD: ACCESS POLICY JUST BECAUSE THE BOAT YARD IS AN ESSENTIAL BUSINESS, DOES NOT MEAN IT IS SAFE TO GO OUT.
Right now, we're going to keep the OFFICE closed to the public, except by appointment. In order for our staff to safely work in the boat yard and maintain proper protocols, PLEASE CONTINUE TO REFRAIN FROM COMING TO THE BOAT YARD EXCEPT FOR EMERGENCIES.
If you must come to the office or the boat yard to see us in person, you MUST make an appointment. FOR THE BOAT PLACE: Contact Gary by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. FOR HARBORSIDE MARINE: Contact Pete at 631-364-2978.
If you must come to the boat yard, please maintain social distancing and wear a face mask if in proximity to others. We're trying hard to keep the office sanitized, and have limited access for our essential employees only. See below regarding proper protocols for interacting in public, including accessing the boat yard.
"NY ON PAUSE" IS STILL IN EFFECT We are all still subject to the NY on PAUSE orders, some of which are highlighted below and incorporated into our boat yard policies at this time, so that we will be in compliance with the requirements of our newly-designated essential business status:
Any individual who is over age two and able to medically tolerate a face-covering shall be required to cover their nose and mouth with a mask or cloth face-covering when in a public place and unable to maintain, or when not maintaining, social distance.
Non-essential gatherings of individuals of any size for any reason (e.g. parties, celebrations or other social events) are canceled or postponed at this time;
Any concentration of individuals outside their home must be limited to workers providing essential services and social distancing should be practiced;
When in public individuals must practice social distancing of at least six feet from others;
Businesses and entities that provide other essential services must implement rules that help facilitate social distancing of at least six feet;
Individuals should limit outdoor recreational activities to non-contact and avoid activities where they come in close contact with other people;
Use precautionary sanitizer practices such as using isopropyl alcohol wipes.
Stay positive. Stay home. Stay safe.
YOU HELPED US GET ESSENTIAL STATUS Our email and social media posts on Friday were viewed by over 6,200 people on FaceBook alone. Although it was mostly due to the hard work of the ESMTA and its lobbyists that we got this approval, your support and your calls and emails made a difference. THANK YOU!
THANK YOU! Once again, we would like to thank all of our customers who are "essential workers" serving on the front lines...doctors, nurses, police officers, firefighters, EMTs, transportation and delivery workers, grocery store and pharmacy employees, restaurant workers, and others. We appreciate all that you are doing for our community, and we salute you for your dedication.
Four generations of the Gudzik family have served Port Jefferson and the surrounding communities since our company's founding in 1905. As one of Port Jefferson's oldest businesses, we are proud to continue our village's maritime tradition as a fifth generation enters the business. We look forward to continued success as we work hard to "go the extra nautical mile" for our customers every day.
